Performance Wholesale Wss Stars Honoured At Glittering Banquet

A host of Speedway dignitaries and VIP’s were on hand to witness Brooke Tatnell and his Krikke Motorsport team, hoist the champions trophy and claim the $20,000 first prize for winning this year’s 2009-2010 Performance Wholesale World Series Sprintcar championship.
Tatnell whom was presented his trophy by Performance Wholesale Managing Director Bill Mann, claimed his eighth WSS Sprintcar crown and third in succession. He duly went about thanking his team including car owner Shane Krikke and the Krikke family, his crew members Pete Caporn and Shane Finch, his wife Amy and daughter Emma plus his valued sponsors including major sponsor Toyota Genuine Parts.
The awards night which was hosted by the incomparable Wade Aunger was a glittering affair. Guests were treated to a short promotional video which highlighted the 2009-10 series.
NASR competition and operations manager Paul Trengove welcomed special guests, Bill Mann from Performance Wholesale, East Coast Pipelines Barry Waldron, SCCA President Peter Mitchell, Speedway Hall of famer Con Migro, ‘the General’ John Day, Motorplex Speedway Manager Gavin Migro, WSS Management Board Chairman Geoff Kendrick, Power Production’s David Tapp and Big Screen Australia’s Steve Timmis.
Trengove spoke of NASRs role in overseeing the series by installing a management board and thanked them for their forward thinking and planning.
Performance Wholesale WSS General Manager Steven Green presented appreciation awards to both Bill Mann and Barry Waldron for their support of the series and spoke of the positive feeling throughout this year’s championship.
Green acknowledged the substantial contribution to this year’s championship by the SCCA, the governing body of Sprintcar racing. He noted their commitment had enabled WSS to have a full time Chief Steward Gary Pendlebury on the road and this fact alone had contributed to more consistent officiating.
Green thanked WSS Race Director Shane Collins for his continued work which was notably admired by all competitors. Wade Aunger received a resounding round of applause when Green thanked him for returning to the microphone as the voice of World Series Sprintcars.
Green thanked NASR’s Paul Trengove for his input which was vital to the series and praised him for his use of technology within the series.
Green went on to say how much better the commentary and big screen worked this year with Aunger , Timmis and Trengove a major part of that.
He thanked American’s Jason Johnson and Danny Smith and their car owners for their contribution which makes World Series a truly International Series.
He also thanked the National Association of Speedway Racing (NASR) for their support of the series and their foresight in getting behind Speedway’s primary promotional series.
Robbie Farr and his East Coast Pipeline racing team picked up a cool $9000 for his Championship runner-up position as well as both the Hoosier Hard Charger and Queensland Speedway Spares Qualifying Awards. Farr who admitted he blew the championship at the Avalon round when he failed to transfer from the B-main, thanked his sponsors and crew and said he would be back next year determined to go one better.
Max Dumesny and his MD motorsport team claimed the $8,500 third prize cheque, but it was the highly regarded Drivers Driver of the year award that brought the seasoned professional the most pleasure. Dumesny showed plenty of emotion as he thanked his fellow competitors for the honour bestowed upon him.
Whilst accepting his spoils Brooke Tatnell spoke of the admiration and respect that Dumsney has from his peers, a testament to the respect and admiration shown towards the seven time championship winner. Tatnell also offered the following, “Anyone that thinks Max Dumesny can’t come back and win number eight is kidding themselves, he’s too good for that!”
Western Australian star Ryan Farrell stormed into fourth position with a successful homecoming at the last three nights in Kalgoorlie and Perth by claiming a podium position on each occasion. Thirty-five year old Farrell was presented with the ‘Pro Shocks Rookie of the year award’ and the ‘Revolution Racegear Heat race champion’ by claiming eight (8) heat race victories throughout the season in his Monte Motorsport machine.
Fifth place went to USA’s Jason Johnson who was recognised for winning the East Coast Pipeline Speedweek crown. Johnson thanked his car Owner Alan Haynes and Crew Chief Brendan Telfer for putting together such a great team in such a short period of time and said he looked forward to bigger and better things next season. Johnson also took the honours in the Vortex Wings Top Eight Shootout season award highlighting his impressive car speed.
James McFadden, David Murcott, Bryan Mann, Danny Reidy and Kerry Madsen rounded out the top ten in points.
Dave Sharman received a rousing reception as he accepted his Crew Chief of the year award. Sharman, the Crew Chief of the Dave Murcott driven TripleM racing team thanked his fellow Crew Chief’s for honouring him and thanked his team owner Jason McDonald, Peter Harvey and Jon Sidney for their support.
Peter Lack accepted the NASR Best presented car and Crew Award on behalf of the G&W Racing team of Graham and Wendy Earhart.
The Revolution Racegear B Main Award went to first year WSS competitor Steve Caunt. He paid tribute to his team and family for supporting him as they learnt what it meant to compete on the World Series Tour.
WSS Chairman Geoff Kendrick spoke of the success of this year’s series and thanked all WSS sponsors, competitors, staff, volunteers and fans for their contribution. Kendrick was very pleased with the record car numbers and crowds who attended each round of the series and attributed the success to the early planning put in place some twelve months ago.
Kendrick spoke in glowing terms of this year’s TV package with the ratings on ONE HD exceeding expectations. He indicated that the planning for next year’s series is already underway and was confident of further growth base around the strong numbers.
In presenting his Chairman’s Award to WSS favourite Ricky Maiolo he praised Maiolo and his family for the spirit in which they conducted themselves , the spirit the World Series competition is known for!
The night rounded out with entertainers Benny and Vanessa Bishop singing some tunes and a moving Wade Aunger photography montage of the Performance Wholesale World Series Championship.
